Welcome to my website on MSP winter cycling conditions!

Link to most recent report

Hello there! My name is Owen and I wanted to have a place where people can collectively report on cycling conditions in the Twin Cities metro without having to rely on social media. My main focus has been protected bicycle infrastructure.

About me

Disclaimer

The information on this site is for informational use only. Ride at your own risk, especially in the winter.

How will this work?

The way this works is (at least for now, until I come up with a more sophisticated way to do this) to manually update the embedded map you see below. On this map, you should be able to see sections of bike trail that are bold. These lines will be thicker than the rest, and if you click on these segments it should give a trail status. I will also put text below in case you don't want to navigate the map.

Lastly, keep in mind that these are opinions of myself and the people submitting. Based on the bikes people have or their comfort level, these subjective descriptions might clash another's experience.

The map will expire after heavy snowfall.

On this page, if we get over 2 inches of snowfall, all previous reports will be marked as "expired" (dark gray on map). The reason I picked that number is because that is the threshold at which the MPRB declares a snow event, and it will take time for everyone else to plow as well. I will make a note in the "Reports" section that a snow event occurred (based on how much snow we get), but I will keep the written reports. Part of my reasoning behind this is that reports from before the snow event will not be particularly useful. This approach will let users see previous reports to get an idea of what that trail looked like plowed. Reach out to me if you have a different view, I want to make this site as useful as possible!

Suggestions for submitting

  1. Tell me about your bike. Tire width and whether or not you have studs are the most important.
  2. Describe your route.

Colors for user reports

Green lines on the map represent bike trails that are fully plowed.

Orange lines on the map represent bike trails that are partially plowed. This will color mostly be used when the trail was plowed at some point, but the ride quality has gotten worse (subjective). For example, if it snowed just enough to not plow again and it's all slippery/bumpy, or if wake from the street plow throws a bunch of chunks on the trail, or if a painted bike lane is unusable.

Yellow lines on the map represent bike trails that are unplowed.

Gray lines on the map represent expired reports from before a major snow event. These are there for context only, in case anyone wants to view old reports on the map easily.

Pink markers on the map represent large snow mounds at intersections.

Other colors

Refer to the OpenCycleMap legend for information on other colors. I try to choose colors that don't overlap with these.

How do I contact you to update this website?

Just like the good old days, send me an email. I will work to update this site quickly. Email me at mspwintercycle@gmail.com. If you have any suggestions on how to improve this website, please let me know! Obviously having something more automated would be nice, but that seemed like a lot of work, and I wanted to get something up and running.

Can I report something that isn't a bike path/off street bike facility?

If you want to, of course. In my experience, painted bike lanes often become treacherous in the winter with a combination of slush, ice, and compacted snow. During snow events, however, roads usually get plowed first, so that information could be useful!

I have had better success with plowing on "bicycle boulevards," such as 40th St (RiverLake Greenway). Information on these roads throughout the Twin Cities (usually they have "BLVD" painted on the asphalt) would be helpful in my opinion.

How do you handle privacy?

I would encourage everyone submitting information to me to keep in mind this website is public. I won't include names of people who send things to me, and feel free to omit any part of your ride that could identify where you live. Since I don't know that information and will upload what you send me, just be mindful.

  • West River Pkwy
    • 38th St to Franklin Ave Bumpy, but road side of the trial is packed well enough where it isn't too bad. The extra ~0.25 inches of snow from today was not plowed. On 38mm/35mm studded tires it wasn't slippery.
  • Franklin Ave Bridge
    • Fully plowed, smooth, but studded tires are helpful for traction because of occasional glare ice. Little snow to ride over.
  • East River Pkwy
    • Franklin Ave to Oak St SE fully plowed, but this trail felt harder to bike on for whatever reason on 38mm/35mm studded tires. It was bumpy. I think it's because the snow isn't very well packed, as a result a couple of soft spots in the snow were slippery, so I wasn't able to go very fast.
  • Oak St SE Bikeway
    • East River Pkwy to 4th St SE Fully plowed but crunchy, and before Washington Ave there was the occasional soft patch of snow that messed with traction. Ride slow. Leftover snow from the plow has made random tracks of frozen slush to ride over, but I was able to ride through them with no issues on 38mm/35mm studded tires. Past Washington was consistently crunchy but fine with studs.
  • 4th St SE Bikeway
    • Oak St SE to 15th Ave SE bikeway is plowed, but a layer of crunchy frozen slush/ice/snow chunks is present which requires riding slow. At 16th Ave SE, there is a large amount of frozen slush that is impassable.
  • 15th Ave SE
    • 4th St SE to Como Ave SE bike lane is unplowed and there is still slush on the road, the road was plowed at some point. I rode in the car tracks. Past the railroad tracks, there is tons of compacted ice/snow that made riding very bumpy and uncomfortable on 38mm/35mm studded tires. Same was present on Como Ave
  • Stinson Blvd/18th Ave SE
    • Como Ave SE to Hennepin Ave E Fully plowed - crunchy ride with inconsistent snow depth, but not slippery on 38mm/35mm studded tires at low speeds. Tire marks that are frozen in place are present on this trail. Intersection with Hennepin had a slight ice bump before the Stinson trail
    • Hennepin Ave E to Kennedy St NE completely impassable. Wake from road snow plow has ruined this part of the trail completely, I had to walk it over for most of this.
    • Kennedy St NE to New Brighton Blvd Mostly plowed. A mix of bare pavement in front of certain businesses to ~0.25 inches of snow from that were not plowed. On 38mm/35mm studded tires this section wasn't slippery, just slightly dificult to ride in. Some intersections have small ice mounds at crosswalks that are kind of sketchy to ride over at higher speeds. Solid ice mound at New Brighton is not cleared, had to walk my bike when crossing the road.
  • Great Northern Greenway
    • Stinson Blvd to Johnson St NE Fully plowed, salted near target, but mostly frozen slush past that with a light layer of snow on top. Didn't feel slippery, but I could hear the crunch underneath on 38mm/35mm studded tires constantly
    • Johnson St NE to Fillmore St NE Fully plowed with nicely packed snow. Smooth on 38mm/35mm studded tires, not slippery.
  • Johnson St NE shared use path
    • Great Northern Greenway to Lowry Ave NE Fully plowed. There is a thin layer of snow on mostly ice for this trail. Intersections are clear, but there is a fair amount of exposed ice on this trail, going up the hill my rear wheel spun, didn't lose control though on 38mm/35mm studded tires. At least it wasn't bumpy, but I definitely had to ride slow.
  • Fillmore St NE
    • Great Northern Greenway to Hennepin Ave E The road was plowed at some point, but it is a mix of packed snow and mushy snow. This road and other side streets were pretty slippery, with constant patches of soft mushy snow that messed up my traction on 38mm/35mm studded tires. My rear wheel fishtailed a few times on this road and I had to go slow.
  • 5th St SE
    • 6th Ave SE to 10th Ave SE This road was plowed, but it still has a bunch of packed snow/ice patches and mushy snow that make the ride bumpy and slippery. The bridge over I-35W was plowed and not slippery, but it was bumpy.
  • 10th Ave SE/19th Ave S
    • 5th St SE to Riverside Ave Plowed, but it felt crunchy on 38mm/35mm studded tires. Light snow on top of frozen slush/ice. The Mississippi River bridge didn't feel slippery but I thought having wider studded tires helped with control. Going over Washington Ave there was more exposed ice than in other areas so my rear wheel spun a bit going over this bridge.
  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • 15th Ave S (Cedar-Riverside LRT) to Lake St Plowed, well packed snow to the Sabo bridge, very comfortable on 38mm/35mm studded tires. From Sabo to Lake St, it was lightly dusted bare pavement, not too much ice, but studs still recommended
    • Lake St to 38th St The ~0.25 inches of snow from the most recent snowfall is still present here unpacked, but on 38mm/35mm studded tires it didn't feel slippery. Tons of road snow plow wake on the trail between 32nd and 34th which makes it hard to ride, I had to dismount because the ice chunks were too big to ride through. The intersection at 38th St is also incredibly bumpy.

2025-12-30

  • 26th St
    • 31st Ave to Cedar Ave Plowed, but chewed up and slippery with 2 inch studded tires
    • Cedar Ave to 10th Ave Plowed, bike lane is grippy with studded tires.
  • 38th St
    • West River Pkwy to 36th Ave Plowed, but there is ice/compacted snow underneath and it's been chewed up by cars
  • Midtown Greenway
    • 36th Ave to 31st Ave Glare ice. got off cause I didn't like it. On 26x2" studs and it was ok actually, I just hated it!
  • Side streets in Longfellow (such as 36th Ave) looked ok, as long as they weren't chewed too bad by cars. The snow is flat, compact and grippy, with the occasional pile of slippery snow.

2025-12-29

Note: to view an up to date map of MPRB trail plowing status, look in the Resources section.

  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • Sabo Bridge to Minnehaha Pkwy Fully plowed, thin layer of snow on top of ice and bare pavement. I could feel my 38mm/35mm studded tires crunching going over this trail, but it didn't feel slippery. Just before 38th St station, there's some pretty bad wake from the plow covering up most of the trail, but there is enough room for one bike to pass. Past 46th St station, the trail becomes more uneven and bumpy.
  • Lake Nokomis-Minnesota River Regional Trail
    • Richfield Pkwy to 68th St Fully plowed, no slipping for me, however wake from the road snow plow has created frequent tiny snow balls on this trail. They were fairly easy to ride over for me on 38mm/30mm studded tires, but if those freeze it could be challenging. Intersections on this trail were clear. 76th St bikeway looked plowed along with its intersections.
    • 68th St to Lake Nokomis Pkwy Fully plowed, thin layer of snow on top of bare pavement or ice. More salted near 66th St in Richfield, but throughout this entire trail there is a thin layer of ice in the center of the trail. Sometimes it's underneath the snow, but use caution while riding, as it can be slippery anywhere. I felt my rear wheel spin a couple times when going over MN-62 on 38mm/30mm studded tires. At Lake Nokomis Pkwy, there is a high snow mound I had to dismount to cross.
  • West Lake Nokomis Pkwy
    • South intersection @ Cedar Ave to 22nd Ave S Fully plowed, however the trail is very bumpy. My 38mm/30mm studded tires did not slip on this trail, but I could never really go fast enough to worry about slipping. This trail seems to be packed snow covering very bumpy ice, which helps with traction, but isn't the most comfortable ride.
  • 42nd St
    • West River Pkwy to 28th Ave S A mix of mushy snow and random patches of hardened ice/snow mix. A plow went over this at some point, but some places are bumpy for cyclists. Random bumps (mostly ice) are frequent, take it slow, the mushy snow was slippery for me on 38mm/35mm studded tires on multiple occasions.
  • Lake Hiawatha Trail
    • Fully plowed, however the trail is very bumpy. My 38mm/30mm studded tires did not slip on this trail, but I could never really go fast enough to worry about slipping. This trail seems to be packed snow covering very bumpy ice, which helps with traction, but isn't the most comfortable ride.
  • West River Pkwy/Godfrey Pkwy
    • Minnehaha Falls to Midtown Greenway Fully plowed, but kind of bumpy. The side of the trail closest to the road has the best snow pack, the other side had some bumpier sections where people have walked. Intersections with roads (like 38th st, 42nd st, etc) did not have the curb cut done. Intersections with parking lots weren't bad though.
  • Midtown Greenway
    • West River Pkwy to 28th St Fully plowed. Mostly smooth, a thin layer of snow covering mostly ice. It didn't feel slippery on 38mm/35mm studded tires, however, I definitely had to be careful. There is a fair amount of exposed ice on this trail, mostly smooth. Curb cuts with roads are clear, but some of the roads are bumpy with ice and snow while crossing. Sabo Bridge is plowed, but kind of crunchy with ice. Didn't slip, but my rear wheel spun a little on the way up.
  • 28th St
    • Midtown Greenway to Hiawatha Ave Fully plowed, light snow on top of light layer of ice. I didn't slip on 38mm/35mm studded tires

2025-12-28

I usually don't do this, but this was a timely snow. These are only visual observations when walking around the Uptown area around 11:30pm. Hopefully this is helpful for your morning commutes. Keep in mind tonight will be windy, so that can affect snow depths on trails.

  • 26th St/28th St bikeways
    • Visually, this looked like it was plowed today but it blown snow in it.
  • Hennepin Ave bikeway (uptown)
    • I saw the plow clearing this around 10pm. It looked mostly clear of snow, although winds tonight could change that.
  • Midtown Greenway
    • At least 1-2 inches of snow on this trail, looking at it from the Emerson Ave bridge. Someone biked on it in kind of a squiggly line.
  • Lake St in uptown
    • Hennepin Ave to Dupont Ave at least Complete ice rink on this road. I almost fell over crossing Lagoon and Lake. The bus slid as it came to a stop.

2025-12-20

  • Hennepin Ave NE & 1st Ave NE Bikeway
    • Most spots were plowed with visible pavement, but there are many patches of ice. Central & Hennepin is dicey due to some chunks of ice falling off the pile of plowed snow into the bike lane. A water main broke in this area near this trail, so beware of future ice.
  • Plymouth Ave N
    • Penn Ave to West River Pkwy Bike lane is plowed, but the snow is crunchy and can be pretty icy. Wake from the snow plow has frozen in some parts of the trail, unfortunately.
  • West River Pkwy
    • Plymouth Ave to 11th Ave S well plowed, mostly bare pavement. It looks like this was salted. a small amount of snow occasionally, but smooth ride on 38mm/30mm studded tires
    • 42nd St to Minnehaha Falls well plowed, even snow depth. Ice patches occasionally but I did not slip on 38mm/30mm studded tires and taking corners slow
  • 11th Ave S Bikeway
    • West River Pkwy to Hiawatha LRT Trail Fully plowed and salted. Didn't notice any ice on this trail. Trail crossing at Hiawatha LRT trail was a bit icy, but the lane itself was good.
  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • 11th Ave S to 26th St A mix of ice and light layer of snow on top of ice. not much bare pavement here, and the section just before Cedar-Riverside was really icy and the ice was pretty bumpy. It felt like there were grooves in the ice that made the ride on 38mm/30mm studded tires a bit more unstable. Not the worst I've been on, but certainly not the best. The snow on top of the ice helped with traction.
    • 26th St to 38th St A mix of bare pavement and unpacked snow from the sides of the trail spilling over. Going over these occasional small snow drifts was okay, but a little slippery, so use caution when riding here. The most ice I saw was at intersections, where the snow mounds left behind from previous plow jobs became frozen.
  • Minnehaha Trail
    • 54th St to Godfrey Pkwy well plowed, even snow depth. Ice patches occasionally but not slippery on studded tires and taking corners slow. south minnehaha dr is plowed with thin clayer of snow and occasional ice patches. Once the trail ends to connect to the MNDOT trail, it is slushy there (probably because of the sun) but I anticipate that freezing overnight.
  • Hiawatha MnDOT Trail
    • packed snow plus ice, some bare pavement. Not bad on studded tires, mostly well plowed with occasional changes in snow depth. Connecting trail to Mendota Bridge has about 0.25 inches of unpacked snow. it felt fine to ride through on 38mm/30mm studded tires, but go slow in case there's ice beneath.
  • Mendota Bridge
    • the center of the trail is bare pavement, but the railing side has some ~6 inch wide ice patches and the highway side has ~12 inch wide snow piles. Felt fine going down the middle on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Big Rivers Regional Trail
    • Mendota Bridge to Lilydale very well plowed, almost no snow. There was some smooth ice (dangerous) right after crossing sibley memorial hwy, so stay alert for that. 38mm/30mm studded tires were more than enough for this trail.
  • Lilydale Regional Park Trail
    • plowed, but in the shadier sections it has some larger ice patches I had to maneuver around. Since this is a winding trail, use caution when turning, especially if you're turning on ice. I felt my rear wheel slip a couple times here, but at low speeds on 38mm/30mm studded tires, I felt good. Right after the Smith Ave bridge, I thought the trail was even more icy, mostly because of the shade (going by the marinas). It was bumpy ice so I didn't slip, but be careful
  • Plato Blvd
    • Doctor Justus Ohage Blvd to Wabasha St mostly bare pavement. In a couple places, wake from the plow made the trail bumpy for about 20 ft.
  • Capitol City Bikeway
    • Wabasha St to Jackson St on Kellogg Blvd Clear and heavily salted
    • Kellogg Blvd to University Ave E on Jackson St mostly salted, what little snow remains is not slippery and I did not notice much ice. 38mm/30mm studded tires were more than enough
  • University Ave E trail
    • Jackson St to L'Orient St plowed and mostly bare pavement, but some wake from road plows has made some chunky spots, but not for very long
  • L'Orient St trail
    • University Ave E to Arch St E huge amounts of ice, I had to dismount at certain points because it was so bumpy and slippery. Better to ride on the road for this segment.
    • Arch St E to Cayuga Park mostly plowed down to bare pavement and salted.
  • Gateway State Trail
    • Cayuga Park to Arlington Ave E plowed at some point, but blown snow onto the trail has made a fluffy layer about 0.5 inches thick in some places. Other parts are bare pavement. There is ice on this trail, mostly in chunky ice patches, but not all of them are visible because of the snow. Use caution. I was able to maneuver fine on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Arlington Ave E to 3rd St N (Just before Rotary Park in North St. Paul) mostly plowed. unpacked snow, about 0.2 inches from last snowfall, but easy to bike through for the most part. There is ice underneath this snow that isn't visible, but I never biked over any that made me slip. Ice at road crossings is something to look out for here. every single bridge going over a road has a fair amount of ice on the way up, so use caution when going up and down. This was especially noticeable going into North Saint Paul over McKnight road. Just before the Arcade St underpass, there is a small ice mound with tire marks in it. Be careful going over it!
    • 3rd St N to Henry St Fully plowed bare pavement.
    • Henry St to Jamaca Ave plowed, but slightly less snow than the western portion of this trail. There is still ice, especially where the trail gets shady and there is little snow covering it. Again, beware of trail bridges. This can be slippery, so be mindful of where you ride. I didn't slip on any of this ice, but I took it slow. Ice is pretty regular on this trail, but the patches aren't too high, so I was able to bike over them normally. Studded tires highly encouraged here, on 38mm/30mm studded tires I felt fine, but less ice would've made it better. Trail was unplowed past Jamaca Ave.
  • Wheelock Pkwy
    • Gateway State Trail to Lake Como almost entirely bare pavement, intersections are very good. ice patches were rare, it would appear this trail was salted at some point.
  • Lake Como Bikeway
    • mostly clear/bare pavement, edges of trail have loose snow and there are big ice chunks at a few places on the trail
  • Como Ave Bikeway
    • Lake Como to UMN transitway middle of the trail is bare pavement, however, the sides have snow from Thursday blown on. At the miracle of life center, some ice chunks spilled onto the trail. comfortable ride otherwise.
  • University of Minnesota Transitway
    • road is fully salted and bikeway is clear of ice and snow.
  • 6th St S bikeway
    • Fully plowed, clear of ice and snow, likely salted.
  • Dinkytown Greenway
    • fully plowed, light layer of snow and bare pavement with occasional ice patches. Bare ice patches are difficult to traverse, but the snow covered ones are not bad with 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • 4th St SE
    • 17th Ave SE to I-35W this bikeway was poorly plowed. Snow was chunky and other people's tire marks have iced themselves in place at some points, making the ride generally unpleasant. snow depth is inconsistent so skinny tires (38mm/30mm studded) made the ride challenging.
    • I-35W to 6th Ave SE Road is fully plowed but the bike lane is full of ice/slush/snow.
  • Stone Arch Bridge
    • a mix of bare pavement and ice, beware of large ice patches on the bike trail. Most of them seem to be on one side (north). It was okay, but I had to watch where I was so I wasn't riding on bare ice. 38mm/30mm studded tires did their job but on bare ice they still slip.
  • Cedar Lake Trail
    • West River Pkwy to Glenwood Ave mostly bare pavement, some ice patches with light snow. Comfortable on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Glenwood Ave to Van White Memorial Blvd completely covered in bumpy ice, with very little snow over it. Very chunky, very slippery and difficult to bike on, even with 38mm/30mm studded tires. Not recommended, use extreme caution
  • Dunwoody Blvd
    • Cedar Lake Trail to Hennepin Ave Bare pavement, looks like it was salted.
  • Loring Greenway
    • Hennepin Ave to Bryant Ave mostly packed snow with ice patches in Loring Park, felt stable on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Trail in front of churches is mostly bare pavement. Bridge to uptown has a thin layer of snow on it with some ice, but not too much.
  • Hennepin Ave
    • Franklin/Bryant Ave to 24th St Bikeway is clear of snow and ice. Looks like it was salted.

2025-12-19

  • Midtown Greenway
    • I-35W to 5th Ave S Fully plowed, mix of light layer of snow and bare pavement. There are intermittent ice patches on this part of the trail, so studded tires are ideal. On 38mm/30mm studded tires I didn't slip, but I felt some of the ice bumps as I went over them.
    • 5th Ave S to West River Pkwy Fully plowed, but a bit more ice on this segment of the trail. The light layer of snow covering the ice helps with traction, but the bare ice patches are very slippery. Sabo bridge has almost no ice, down to bare pavement up there. However, east of Hiawatha there was more ice underneath the snow than west of Hiawatha. I felt my rear wheel slightly slip a couple of times, so studded tires are recommended. My 38mm/30mm studded tires fared well, but I couldn't go very fast.
  • West River Pkwy
    • Midtown Greenway to 42nd St Plowed, but inconsistent snow depth on the trail. There is a streak running through the center of the trail that is almost down to bare pavement, so I usually rode in that. Did not feel slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires. The packed snow on this trail is fairly bumpy. Some small ice chunks/patches are present so studded tires are very helpful for traction. Overall fine, I would like to see the snow packed more smoothly.
  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • Western side, from Lake St LRT station to 28th St Plowed, mix of light layer of snow and bare pavement. Occasional ice patches, not slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • 28th St
    • 1st Ave S to 5th Ave S Flex post separated bike lane is recently plowed with mostly a light layer of snow. I-35W bridge is icy, but I did not slip on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Comfortable ride.
    • Midtown Greenway to Hiawatha Ave Plowed, mix of light layer of snow and bare pavement. Occasional ice patches, not slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • 1st Ave S Bikeway
    • From Lake St to 15th St Fully plowed and not too much ice. There are small snow piles at some intersections, but at medium speed I was able to go through them easily on 38mm/30mm studded tires. A couple of signaled intersections are more icy where the sidewalk meets the trail, so take care. Overall a nice experience.
      • Intersection with 28th St Still unplowed and construction equipment blocks the bikeway. Lots of ice has accumulated here, so use an abundance of caution if you try to ride through.

2025-12-18

It's icy out there, and the snow we got might be covering up icy parts of the trail! Stay safe, go slow, and take corners slowly.

  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • 38th St to 46th St Mixed snow depth on this trail, more varied than the parkway because of the wind next to Hiawatha Ave. Because of the wind, the edges of this trail occasionally had larger snow drifts. On 38mm/30mm studded tires, it was kind of slippery, especially when I ran over chunks of ice that I could not see because of the snow. Ride slow and use caution! On 38mm/30mm studded tires, my ride had a couple of close calls. Any remaining slush mounds from this morning/yesterday have become small ice patches which, if your tire is not at the right angle, can be hazardous.
  • West River Pkwy/Godfrey Pkwy
    • Minnehaha Falls to 38th St Snow is accumulating on these trails, but for the most part it isn't very deep (~0.25 inch). However, because of the wind, the edges of these trails occasionally had larger snow drifts. On 38mm/30mm studded tires, it was kind of slippery, especially when I ran over chunks of ice that I could not see because of the snow. For example, just past the 46th Ave crossing, a little bit of snow left over from the plow has frozen underneath the freshly fallen snow and my front wheel shifted in an uncomfortable way riding over at full speed. Ride slow and use caution! On 38mm/30mm studded tires, my ride had a couple of close calls. Any remaining slush mounds from this morning/yesterday have become small ice patches which, if your tire is not at the right angle, can be hazardous.
  • 4th St S bikeway
    • 5th Ave S to Hennepin Ave The riding was a little slippery or suddenly hit a mini snow drift in places, but I felt pretty stable still with my 38mm studded tires and a low gear. A mix of unpacked snow and bare pavement on the trails.
  • Hennepin Ave
    • 4th St S to Loring Greenway The riding was a little slippery or suddenly hit a mini snow drift in places, but I felt pretty stable still with my 38mm studded tires and a low gear. A mix of unpacked snow and bare pavement on the trails.
  • Loring Greenway
    • Hennepin Ave to Bryant Ave The riding was a little slippery or suddenly hit a mini snow drift in places, but I felt pretty stable still with my 38mm studded tires and a low gear. A mix of unpacked snow and bare pavement on the trails.
  • Bryant Ave
    • Franklin Ave to 28th St The riding was a little slippery or suddenly hit a mini snow drift in places, but I felt pretty stable still with my 38mm studded tires and a low gear.

2025-12-17

  • West River Pkwy
    • 38th St to Godfrey Pkwy Mostly bare pavement, however there are occasional ice patches. Anywhere where snow still exists, the snow is mushy and riding over it does not feel very stable on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • 38th St to 46th St About 60% bare pavement. Parts where snow still exists are slippery/mushy to ride over, so I avoided those on my 38mm/30mm studded tires. Ice patches are already formed on this trail, so stay alert when riding.
  • 42nd St
    • West River Pkwy to Hiawatha Ave Almost completely bare pavement on this road, except for some residual snow where cars are parked. Side streets I biked on were the same way, 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Hennepin Ave NE & 1st Ave NE Bikeway
    • nearly the whole bike path was cleared down to the pavement (and even salted in many spots), but there are many patches of ice/slush depending on what the temperature is when you're out. Though I made it through on my unicycle's 29x2.4" unstudded tire just fine today, a studded tire would have been helpful. It was significantly easier and safer in the afternoon today when some of the icy patches had melted.
  • Cedar Lake Trail
    • Target Field to Azine Way On 29x2.4" unstudded tire, mostly down to bare pavement but ice patches/slush are present.
    • Azine Way to West River Pkwy plowed but still has a layer of snow hiding the pavement
  • 38th St
    • 28th Ave to 10th Ave clear enough the whole way but I still wanted studs for occasional bits of road slop
  • 10th Ave
    • From 38th St to Midtown Global Market (including bikeway) clear enough the whole way but I still wanted studs for occasional bits of road slop

2025-12-16

Beware of ice! A lot of bike trails/sidewalks/roads have parts that are wet bare pavement right now, but temperatures are expected to go below freezing tonight. Keep that in mind for your riding decisions.

  • Midtown Greenway
    • Park Ave to West River Pkwy Fully plowed, a mix of bare pavement, lightly packed snow, and patches of slush. The snow feels softer than on colder days, which made me go slower because of having to pedal harder. Not slippery, felt stable on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Ice is starting to form; bare pavement and slush was wet, which I anticipate will freeze overnight.
  • West River Pkwy
    • Midtown Greenway to 38th St Mix of bare pavement and lightly packed snow. Packed snow had less traction than in colder temperatures, but did not feel sketchy on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Some ice is starting to form. Parts of this trail are entirely bare pavement, but the pavement is wet so anticipate ice on this trail.
  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • Sabo Bridge to 24th St Fully plowed, mostly bare pavement, but is wet with occasional slush patches. Beware of ice forming overnight.
  • Lake Nokomis-Minnesota River Regional Trail
    • Old Cedar Ave to 12th Ave S Clear, 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail
    • 12th Ave S to MN-100 Clear, 38mm/42mm studded tires.
    • MN-100 to US-169 partially plowed. There are long stretches of bumpy, compacted snow that gets very slick while thawing, between long stretches of bare wood or asphalt. Some of the boardwalks are clear, some are very slow and bumpy. 38mm/42mm studded tires
    • US-169 to Minnesota River Bluffs trail Clear, 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • Minnehaha Creek Trail
    • Lake Harriet to Hiawatha Ave Clear - fully plowed for 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • East Lake Nokomis Pkwy
    • East side of the lake Clear - fully plowed for 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • American Blvd shared use path/sidewalk
    • Lyndale Ave to Knox Ave Some parts of the sidewalk are clear, some parts are filled with snow and so mushy/bumpy it is not passable by bike or walking, and some were slushy. The parts of sidewalk that were bare pavement were wet, and the road was completely clear.

2025-12-13

  • University of Minnesota Transitway
    • Fully plowed, 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • Como Ave Bikeway
    • Raymond Ave to Lake Como Fully plowed, 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • Lake Como Bikeway
    • Fully plowed, 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • Lexington Pkwy
    • Lake Como to Montana Ave Fully plowed, 38mm/42mm studded tires
  • Cedar Lake Regional Trail
    • Midtown Greenway to Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail Fully plowed, a mix of bare pavement and light layer of snow. Very good on 38mm/30mm studded tires, and road crossings are generally snow mound-free.
  • Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail
    • 8th Ave S (Hopkins) to Water St (Excelsior) Trail is plowed, but some portions of the trail have deeper snow which made the ride feel extra bumpy. These areas with deeper snow, such as through residential/downtown Hopkins and going by Lake Minnetonka near Deephaven/Greenwood, did not feel slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires, they just required more effort to keep pedaling and were much more bumpy.
  • Mill St/Powers Blvd
    • MN-7 to Holly Lane Road is fully plowed, however the shoulder (which I treated as a bike lane) is either unplowed or icy. I took the road
    • Holly Lane to Saddlebrook Curve Fully plowed trail here, very impressed with how clear all the intersections were. Very confident on 38mm/30mm studded tires. However, at Saddlebrook Curve, the trail ceases to exist and I had to go on the road.
    • Saddlebrook Curve to 78th St Unfortunately, the Powers Blvd bike trail disappeared at Saddlebrook Curve, so I biked in the shoulder. It was icy, but I didn't slip on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • 78th St to Lake Dr Fully plowed, including intersections. intersections didn't have large snow mounds, but rather bumpy ice at crosswalks, especially at 78th St and MN-5. Not a big deal on 38mm/30mm studded tires, but use caution. Underneath the freight rail bridge, the wake from the road snow plow created a lot of ice balls on the trail, which was unfortunate.
  • Lake Susan shared use path
    • Fully plowed trails. Mix of bare pavement and packed snow, comfortable on 38mm/30mm studded tires, no slipping.
  • Rice Marsh Lake shared use path
    • Fully plowed trails. Mix of bare pavement and packed snow, comfortable on 38mm/30mm studded tires, no slipping. Just after going underneath the highway (US 212), there was some mushy snow that I had to dismount to get through, but not a big deal all things considered.
  • Lake Riley Blvd
    • Lake Riley Dr to Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail Fully plowed trails. Trail is slightly deeper than the trails at Rice Marsh Lake, but not slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail
    • Riley Lake Rd to 62nd St Fully plowed trail, fairly consistent thin layer of snow on the aggregate. In the parts that were a little deeper, I followed the tire marks of the snow plow to make it easier to pedal in my 38mm/30mm studded tires. There's a fairly big hump of ice/snow at Dell Rd, crossable on my bike but not a good time. The crossing at Eden Prairie Road was terrible - 3+ ft snow mound that I dismounted and carried my bike over.
    • 62nd St underpass Completely unplowed, deep snow everywhere. I took the frontage road and biked on the shared use path along 62nd St.
    • 62nd St to Shady Oak Road Fully plowed and I felt stable on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Shared path on 62nd St was bumpy, but this part of the trail all the way to Shady Oak Rd was fairly bumpy the whole way. The snow was deeper than the rest of the trail and I felt I had to use a lot more effort to pedal than in previous portions of the trail.
    • Cedar Lake Regional Trail (Excelsior Blvd) to Shady Oak Road Fully plowed, a mix of bare pavement and light layer of snow. Very good on 38mm/30mm studded tires, and road crossings are generally snow mound-free.
  • North Cedar Lake Regional Trail
    • Cedar Lake Regional Trail (Excelsior Blvd) to Cedar Lake Pkwy Fully plowed with a mix of packed snow and bare pavement, did not feel slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Unfortunately at the trail entrance off Excelsior (next to US 169), wake from the road snow plow put a bunch of ice chunks on the trail for about 50 ft. The rest of the trail was well plowed.
  • Cedar Lake Trail
    • Cedar Lake Pkwy to Van White Memorial Blvd Fully plowed with a mix of packed snow and bare pavement, did not feel slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Unfortunately at the trail entrance off Excelsior (next to US 169), wake from the road snow plow put a bunch of ice chunks on the trail for about 50 ft. The rest of the trail was well plowed.
    • Van White Memorial Blvd to West River Pwky Before Glenwood Ave, mostly packed snow, but after getting into downtown, a mix of bare pavement or thin layer of packed snow. Did not feel slippery. However, after Azine Way (going by the Federal Reserve building), the snow was deeper so it felt bumpier there. Not slippery, but not as comfortable on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • West River Pkwy
    • Cedar Lake Trail to 38th St Fully plowed, mostly packed snow on this trail. Most intersections are clear of snow mounds and the trail did not feel slippery or bumpy on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Very happy with this trail.
  • Hennepin Ave
    • Lake St to Franklin/Bryant Ave (end) Clear, watch for ice chunks at intersections and occasionally on the trail.
    • Loring Greenway to Washington Ave Clear, watch for ice chunks at intersections and occasionally on the trail.
  • Washington Ave
    • Hennepin Ave to 5th Ave Clear, watch for ice chunks at intersections and occasionally on the trail.

2025-12-12

  • Franklin Ave
    • 26th Ave S to West River Pkwy Separated bike lane is technically plowed but wake from the snow plow makes it unstable for most of its length, especially past Riverside Ave.
  • I-694 bike/pedestrian bridge
    • Deep, packed snow from plow. Highly discourage even attempting, unless you have no better alternative. Absolutely miserable to walk a bike across.
  • North Mississippi River Park Trails
    • I-694 to 53rd Ave N Fully plowed
  • Mississippi River Regional Trail
    • I-694 to 42 Ave N Fully plowed, including 42nd Ave N bridge
  • 57th Ave N Bikeway
    • Lyndale Ave N to Logan Ave N Fully plowed
    • Logan Ave N to Shingle Creek Pkwy Bikeable, but trail is half covered from snow plowed from the road. Snow mounds at intersections that may require pushing through with both legs on the ground. had to dismount and push bike over a bank of about 18”H x 3'W plowed snow at Shingle Creek Pkwy.
  • Shingle Creek Pkwy
    • 57th Ave N to Victory Memorial Pkwy Mostly plowed, except when crossing over MN-100. Crossing the highway, combination of hard pedaling, pushing with one leg, and slowly descending with one leg ready to stop a fall. It's dicey but not impassable.
  • Oseeo Rd Bikeway
    • Fully plowed
  • Victory Memorial Pkwy/Weber Pkwy trail
    • Lyndale Ave N to Lowry Ave N Fully plowed, but snow mounds at every crossing, ones marked on the map I couldn't just pedal through. Some of the N-S crossings were ironically even smoother than they are without any snow.

  • Lake St
    • Hiawatha Ave to Mississippi River Clear/plowed, wet but not slippery (heavily salted). Some slush/smaller mounds at B Line stops. 700x28, front studs only.
  • Kellogg Blvd
    • Summit Ave to 7th St Clear, not slippery.
  • 7th St (St. Paul)
    • Kellogg Blvd to Robert St Clear, not slippery.
  • Marshall Ave
    • Mississippi River to Lexington Pkwy Clear/plowed to straddle the left line of the bike lane. Slippery at a few points. Occasional small mounds at side street intersections but hefty salt left them rendered mostly slushy. Actual bike lane has parked cars and compacted mounds of snow and slush. Straddling bike lane/traffic yields decent riding, otherwise take the lane if comfortable. 700x28, front studs only. Bike lane is plowed on Mississippi River bridge.
    • Lexington Pkwy to Summit Ave Partially plowed. Due to lower traffic, lots of small mounds / drag from side streets, slippery.
  • Phalen Blvd Bikeway (merges with Bruce Vento Regional Trail)
    • I-35E to Lake Phalen Fully plowed, plowed down or near down to pavement. No issues with 4.5 inch half studded tires, a few slick spots along Phalen Blvd, but any size studded tire should work.
  • Bruce Vento Trail
    • Lake Phalen to Gateway Trail Fully plowed, plowed down or near down to pavement. No issues with 4.5 inch half studded tires.
  • Gateway State Trail
    • Bruce Vento Trail to White Bear Ave Fully plowed, plowed down or near down to pavement. No issues with 4.5 inch half studded tires.
  • 1st Ave NE Bikeway
    • 1st Ave NE & 4th St NE 3 foot tall pile of snow in the bikeway. Otherwise, bikeway is is plowed.
  • 19th Ave S/10th Ave SE Bikeway
    • Riverside Ave to 4th St SE Fully plowed, some deeper snow on the bridge crossing Washington Ave, was slightly slippery there, but overall well plowed. Mostly stable on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • 4th St SE to 8th St SE Poorly plowed, especially right before 6th St SE. A lot of slush from the parking lot intersecting. Snow is fairly deep and slushy in this part of the bike lane, making it difficult to ride in. Road is fully plowed.
  • Johnson St NE shared use path
    • 16th Ave NE to Lowry Ave NE Plowed the night of 2025-12-9, packed snow, but can be uneven at times. Use caution, deeper snow in a couple of places, like right before 23rd Ave NE. Okay on 38mm/30mm studded tires, but used caution. Some crosswalks, like at 19th Ave NE, are not well plowed. As the snow hardens, it is getting harder and harder to just ride through these snow mounds.
  • Great Northern Greenway
    • Monroe Ave to Stinson Blvd Fully plowed, with thin layer of packed snow on the trail. Plowing job is even, gets a little messy @ Stinson Blvd, where you need to carry your bike over the snow mound to cross Stinson. Good riding experience on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Washington Ave NE to California St NE Fully plowed. When it drops you onto California St, there's a large enough mound that I had to fully dismount and haul the bike over. A momentary inconvenience that I don't imagine it going away anytime soon, and I would say it's impassable with a cargo bike or if you are not fully able-bodied.
  • Lowry Ave NE Multiuse Path
    • From Fillmore St NE to Johnson St NE Plowed, mostly okay to climb up, but descending I just switched to the road after a block since I could safely maintain the speed of traffic anyway. Use caution at intersections because of snow mounds.
  • Diagonal Trail
    • Fully plowed
  • Ridgeway Parkway Trail
    • Stinson Blvd to Saint Anthony Pkwy Fully plowed
  • Stinson Blvd/18th Ave SE
    • Great Northern Greenway to Como Ave Fully plowed with packed snow along the trail. Some intersections, most notably @ Stinson/New Brighton Blvd had huge snow mounds at crossings. At rougher intersections with roads (i.e., on dry pavement your bike thunks when going down to the road), the snow could be a bit slippery. Some of the plowing was uneven on the trail, meaning it was slippery in a couple places with 38mm/30mm studded tires. Under I-35W was one place I noticed that was a little slippery. On street section of this trail was mixed in terms of plowing. For the most part positive, but intersections with driveways were more slushy. Bare pavement going by the Target.
    • Como Ave to Elm St Road was barely plowed, very slushy and sliding around a lot on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Stone Arch Bridge
    • Fully plowed, improved from before the last snow, but still a bit slick. Take it slow on non-studded tires, or even studded road tires.
  • 5th St SE bike blvd
    • Central Ave to 15th Ave SE Fully plowed, including bridge over I-35W
  • 6th Ave SE bike blvd
    • Stone Arch Bridge to 8th St SE Reported plowed, but I was weaving a bit to stay on as much bare pavement as possible.
  • Elm St SE/Kasota Ave SE/Energy Park Dr
    • 18th Ave SE to Raymond Ave Road was clear, but on street bike lanes an Elm/Kasota/Energy Park Dr were non existent.
  • Mississippi East Bank Trail
    • 16th Ave NE to Plymouth Ave Fully plowed
  • Plymouth Ave N
    • Graco Park to Theo Wirth Pkwy Bikeway is fully plowed
  • Theo Wirth Pkwy
    • Plymouth Ave to Cedar Lake Rd Fully plowed - note on 394 bridge sidewalk, it is unplowed but it diverts you onto the cleared parkway and back onto the bike path. Trail entrance at the south side of Hwy 55 is a bit dicey because the plow entered the trail at the wrong location (directly from the Pkwy instead of on the corner). I didn't have to dismount or push with my legs but some might, as there was also some deeper snow.
  • Cedar Lake Pkwy
    • Cedar Lake Rd to Dean Pkwy Bikeway is fully plowed
  • Dean Pkwy
    • Cedar Lake Pkwy to Lake St Bikeway is fully plowed, but between Cedar Lake Pkwy and Lake of the Isles it was still a bit slick, had to take it pretty slow around curves. I imagine road tires would struggle here. There was also some snow buildup on either side of the Benton Blvd intersection, that I think a less-experienced rider or someone with slicker tires might need to push through with their legs.
  • Lake of the Isles Trail
    • Fully plowed
  • Midtown Greenway
    • Dean Pkwy to West River Pkwy Fully plowed
  • West River Pkwy
    • Stone Arch Bridge to Greenway Bikeway is fully plowed
    • Lake St to Godfrey Pkwy Trail is well plowed. Snow is more packed than on 2025-12-10, and intersections with parking lots don't have as much snow packed at them, much easier to cross at intersections. Plowing has mostly evened out at this point for both directions of travel, from my experience. Very comfortable riding experience on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • 46th St
    • Mississippi River to Minnehaha Ave Road was clear, but on street bike lane came in and out of existence. For the most part there was slush in the bike lane, so I took the lane with 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Minnehaha Ave
    • 46th St to 32nd St Both directions of the bike lane are useless, occluded at nearly every intersection with snow piles and parked cars. Street is slippery. Take the lane or find a different route otherwise you'll be zig-zagging every thirty feet.
  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • Sabo Bridge to 11th Ave S Fully plowed and comfortable on 1.5" studded front tire and 2" regular rear tire. Trail on the 6th St side of US Bank Stadium is well plowed.
  • 21st Ave S Bike Blvd
    • 35th St to 28th St Slushy, can be slippery at times on 1.5" studded front and 2" regular rear tires, especially between 29th and 35th St.
  • Raymond Ave
    • Energy Park Dr to Myrtle Ave Road was clear, but on street bike lane came in and out of existence. For the most part there was slush in the bike lane, so I took the lane with 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Pelham Blvd Bikeway
    • Well plowed packed snow on this trail, and did not feel slushy or uneven. Intersections with roads were for the most part clean, a small amount of snow at intersection Beverly Road but very passable on 38mm/30mm studded tires. High quality plowing job.
  • Sam Morgan Trail (Shepard Rd trail)
    • Sibley St to I-35E Inadvisable travel. Thin layer of slush that refroze due to no drainage - currently mushy/crunchy and rapidly freezing. Will be very slippery soon with rough, variable surfaces. 28mm front studded tire only.
    • I-35E to Hwy 5 Thin layer of compacted snow, slippery. Manageable but slow and unpleasant, lots of piles. 28mm front studded tire only.
  • East Mississippi River Blvd
    • (on the road) Hwy 5 to Ford Pkwy Clear/plowed. Street is not slippery when taking lane. Southbound bike lane occasionally occluded. Path looked manageable but unpleasant (compacted / variable conditions). 28mm front studs only.
    • (on the trail) Pelham Blvd to Marshall Ave Well plowed compacted snow, felt smooth on 38mm/30mm studded tires for what little time I was there.

2025-12-10

It snowed yesterday/last night, so trails and roads are still being plowed right now.

New feature on the map! Bad snow mounds at intersections can be seen as a pink marker on the map.

  • Hennepin Ave
    • Laurel Ave to I-394 The bike lanes were pretty well cleared, with a thin layer of compacted snow on the ground the whole way. Snow mounds under I-394 bridge.
  • Dunwoody Blvd
    • I-394 to Bryn Mawr Park The bike lanes were pretty well cleared, with a thin layer of compacted snow on the ground the whole way. Bryn Mawr bridge is pretty well plowed, again, it had a thin layer of snow compacted down
  • Luce Line Regional Trail
    • Bryn Mawr Park to Thomas Ave/Inglewood Ave The bike paths were pretty well cleared, with a thin layer of compacted snow on the ground the whole way. Transition between Bryn Mawr Park and Cedar Lake Rd as well as Chestnut Ave and Luce Line Regional Trail are slushy and bad. Especially large snow mound @ Luce Line Regional Trail & Thomas Ave, so bad that I had to dismount my bike to get through the huge pile of snow and slush at the entrance
  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • Sabo Bridge to 46th St Plowed very recently, mostly smooth. Felt stable on 38mm/30mm studded tires at maximum speed for my fixed gear (around 12 mph).
  • Midtown Greenway
    • Hiawatha Ave to Cedar Lake Reported as plowed.
  • 10th Ave S
    • 31st St to 34th St, along Powderhorn Park plowed gr8 but connections to south and north are bad
  • Johnson St NE Multiuse Path
    • Plowed the night of 2025-12-9, looks like a thin layer of packed snow rideable on studded tires.
  • Lowry Ave NE Multiuse Path
    • From Washington St NE to Johnson St NE Fully plowed - slightly uneven stripe following the plow tire indent in some spots, but light layer of packed snow overall.
  • Godfrey Pkwy
    • Minnehaha Falls to 46th St Packed snow and well plowed. Intersections with any road or parking lot can be sketchy, large snow mounds present. Snow on the trail is well plowed, mostly all the same depth. Didn't feel slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires, but occasionally there is a slightly unplowed section, so stay alert. The intersection at 46th Ave there is a large snow mound.
  • West River Pkwy
    • Godfrey Pkwy to Franklin Ave Recently plowed. At intersections with parking lots and major roads, large snow mounds were present, especially by Minnehaha Falls. Going north, I felt like the right side of the trail was not as well plowed as the left, the right felt more bumpy. Didn't feel unsafe, just not as comfortable. The parking lot by Lock and Dam 1 was pretty bad. Between the Greenway and Franklin Ave, there were a couple areas where the snow was deeper in the northbound trail lane. Overall, the trail can be inconsistent, I felt slippery once over the entire trail on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Hennepin Ave to Cedar Lake Trail plowed with just a thin layer of snow on top of the pavement. Some sections, particularly around Central Ave. and Nicollet Island were a bit trickier, due to the mounds of wet slushy snow near intersections, directly in the path of pedestrians and cyclists wanting to cross. The little bit of pavement before crossing W River Parkway was completely unplowed but I was able to power through it on a unicycle (29x2.4" tire no studs) so a fat bike or something could probably handle it.
  • Franklin Ave
    • West River Pkwy to East River Pkwy Fully plowed, light layer of snow, good on 38mm/30mm studded tires. However, the connecting trail (slight right) from W River Pkwy is unplowed, so I had to go on Franklin Ave to get on the bridge bike path.
  • East River Pkwy
    • Franklin Ave to Oak St SE Fully plowed, light layer of snow on this trail. The bridge over interstate 94 had deeper snow than the rest, but still felt stable on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
  • Oak St SE Bikeway
    • East River Pkwy to 4th St SE Some parts of this bike trail are plowed well, but others are not good at all. It looks like it was plowed at some point, but plows from the road and shoveling from the sidewalk have made it very slippery at some points. Use caution when riding this trail, even with studs. Lots of mushy snow in some places.
  • 4th St SE Bikeway
    • Oak St SE to 15th Ave SE This bikeway has a lot of snow in it, despite the fact it was probably plowed recently. I could not ride in this for very long in 38mm/30mm studded tires, the snow was too deep in some places. I'm marking this entire segment as unplowed until it gets fixed.
  • University Ave SE Bikeway
    • 15th Ave SE to Oak St SE Fully plowed, thin layer of snow. Going west to east, the right side of the trail had slightly deeper snow at some parts, but overall well done on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Intersections were well cleared as well.
  • 15th Ave SE
    • Como Ave SE to 4th St SE The road had a thin layer of slush on it that was fine with 38mm/30mm studded tires. Bike lane was completely unplowed, so taking the lane is necessary. 4th St SE & 15th Ave SE intersection is poorly plowed for the new bike facilities.
    • 4th St SE to University Ave Unplowed, fair amount of snow in the bikeway and it felt very slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires. I rode on the sidewalk, which was completely clear.
  • Minnehaha Creek Trail
    • Lake Nokomis to Minnehaha Ave Packed snow and well plowed. Intersections with any road or parking lot can be sketchy, large snow mounds present. Snow on the trail is well plowed, mostly all the same depth. Didn't feel slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires, but occasionally there is a slightly unplowed section, so stay alert. Large snow mound at flashing crosswalk (I believe Nokomis Ave)
  • Lake Nokomis-Minnesota River Regional Trail
    • From Richfield Pkwy to Lake Nokomis Pkwy Well plowed, did not slip on 38mm/30mm studded tires on actual trail, but a lot of intersections are not passable on most bikes, large snow mounds at Richfield Pkwy & 76th St, Old Cedar & 68th St, 66th St & Richfield Pkwy, and the worst one is at Nokomis Parkway & Cedar Ave. Along Old Cedar, wake from the road snow plow made some parts of the trail only rideable on one side.
  • West Lake Nokomis Pkwy
    • From southern entrance at Cedar Ave to 22nd Ave S Plowed today, good thin layer of snow that felt good on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Did not feel slippery anywhere, although snow depth occasionally varied. Large snow mound at Cedar Ave crossing.
  • Marshall Ave
    • Painted bike lane and bus lane are still very sloppy with thick snow.
    • Marshall Ave Bridge Sidewalks on this bridge (sometimes used for bike riding) are not plowed, mushy deep bumpy snow.
  • Hennepin Ave NE & 1st Ave NE Bikeway
    • 29x2.4" tire (unicycle) plowed with just a thin layer of snow on top of the pavement. Some sections, particularly around Central Ave. and Nicollet Island were a bit trickier, due to the mounds of wet slushy snow near intersections, directly in the path of pedestrians and cyclists wanting to cross. I was able to power through about 50% or these sections on my unicycle, but experienced unplanned dismounts for the others.
    • Just before the Hennepin and 8th St. intersection eastbound, they gave up plowing the bike lane and force you to merge with the car lanes for a second, right in the spot where the bike lane becomes unprotected and a bunch of cars want to turn right. The other side of the intersection was still plowed just fine though.
  • Cedar Lake Trail
    • West river pkwy to Target Field just a thin layer of snow on top of the pavement, good with 29x2.4" normal tires.
    • Van White Memorial Blvd to Target Field Plowed to packed snow, about 0.75 inches thick. Some rutting and slipping even with 20"x2.5" studded tires.

2025-12-9

The below reports are from before the snow storm, so be very careful when biking!

Snow totals at MSP airport were 4.1 inches. This was a snow event, thus reports from before this date are marked dark gray on the map.

  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • From 32nd St to 46th St This trail is plowed, looked to be done this morning. Uneven at times. The middle of the trail is plowed best, and the sides can have slightly deeper snow that makes the ride slightly more unstable on 38mm/30mm studded tires. It's not amazing, but not bad either.
  • Mendota Brige
    • Sloppy plowing job with the new snow last night.

2025-12-8

  • Hiawatha LRT Trail
    • From 32nd St to 46th St, 9:30am This trail is plowed, however it is uneven at times. The middle of the trail is plowed best, and the sides can have slightly deeper snow that makes the ride slightly more unstable. It's not amazing, but not bad either.
  • County Road B2/Terminal Rd
    • From Hamline Ave N to Walnut St Unplowed. Passable with a fat bike, but lots of snow on the County Road B2 shared use path, ended up using the road instead.
  • Walnut St (Roseville)
    • Terminal Rd to Rose Pl W Okay - not fully plowed

2025-12-7

  • 28th St E
    • From Bryant Ave to Hennepin Ave plowed, rideable with any bike
  • Hennepin Ave
    • From 28th St to Franklin/Bryant Ave (end) plowed, rideable with any bike
    • Loring Greenway to Washington Ave plowed, dicey in some spots with normal tires
  • Loring Greenway
    • From Bryant Ave to Hennepin Ave exit not plowed at all, cannot see the path, Loring Greenway bridge was bad
  • Washington Ave
    • From Hennepin Ave to 5th Ave S plowed, rideable with any bike

    2025-12-6

It snowed today! Based on the sidewalk outside my house (which was shoveled before it started snowing), we got about 0.2 inches of snow, as of 1am on 2025-12-7. All of these reports were made BEFORE that snow fall, so keep that in mind.

    • 40th St (RiverLake Greenway)
      • From 30th Ave S to I-35W Overall disappointing. From 30th Ave S to Cedar Ave, it is a bit slushy, but mostly plowed if you stay in the center of the road. Areas with parked cars have a lot more mushy snow. It was occasionally slippery. From Cedar Ave to I-35W, the plowing was practically nonexistent. Technically, it was plowed, but it didn't feel like it. Very mushy snow, I was slipping constantly with 38mm/30mm studded tires. Frankly, I would rather ride in the road on 42nd St or 38th St.
      • From I-35W to Bryant Ave Plowed recently. Plow path is not the full width of the bike path, but that was okay. Thin layers of snow in parts, bare pavement most of the time. Very comfortable on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Bryant Ave Bikeway
      • From 40th St to Lake St Fully plowed and salted. Barely any snow on this trail, very easy with 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • 28th St E
      • From Bryant Ave to Hennepin Ave Separated bike lane is plowed and salted, not much snow. A few intersections have slush from parking lots or poorly plowed side streets, but it felt fine on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Hennepin Ave
      • From 28th St to Franklin/Bryant Ave (end) Fully plowed and salted, most intersections were good too, hardly and snow mounds to go over here. The plow isn't quite as wide as the actual path, but there was more than enough room to feel safe on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
      • Loring Greenway to Washington Ave Hennepin Ave bike lanes are plowed and salted for the most part. Slightly more narrow than usual, but mostly clear (aside from a few patches of snow), good on 38mm/30mm studded tires. There are some patches of unplowed snow, like by the Dominoes, where snow from other shoveling made its way onto the trail. Intersections with parking lots/garages are where the most slush accumulates.
      • Washington Ave to Hennepin Ave Bridge Bike lane past Washington Ave is unplowed, and the bike path that goes by Gateway Park and the bus station there is unplowed still. not too deep, but it felt pretty slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Loring Greenway
      • From Bryant Ave to Hennepin Ave exit Paritally plowed, leftover plowing job from last week. This did not feel very good to ride on, slippery and loose snow. With 38mm/30mm studded tires, I was sliding a bit and had to ride on the sidewalk, which was actually shoveled! Inside Loring Park, the bike path was similarly bumpy and uneven. Not great
    • West River Pkwy
      • Hennepin Ave to I-35W Leftover plowing job from last week, trail is bumpy and at some points slippery, especially over the boardwalk. Proceed with caution, even with studded tires like I have (38mm/30mm). Enough people ride on this trail to have cycle tracks, which makes it less bumpy, but still not great.
      • I-35W to Godfrey Pkwy Recently plowed, thin layer of snow which felt good to ride on. At intersections with parking lots, the snow was slushier. There were occasional uneven spots of plowing, where the snow is slightly deeper, but nothing that my 38mm/30mm couldn't handle.
        • Horace W.S. Cleveland Overlook The portion where the trail narrows on that bridge by 44th St / Horace W. S. Cleveland Overlook is not plowed well. Slippery ~0.5 inches of snow. It is left over from the last plow. I was slipping on this trail with 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Lexington Pkwy
      • From 7th St W to St. Clair Ave The only bike lane I've found this winter that's fully plowed. A bit shaky crossing Ayd Mill Road, but overall a very positive experience with 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • Hiawatha LRT Trail
      • From 35th St to 38th St Unplowed and slippery on studded tires.
    • 10th Ave S
      • Midtown Global Market to 31st St Unplowed and slippery on studded tires.
      • 31st St to 34th St, along Powderhorn Park well plowed, so good, green quality - with studded tires
    • 35th St E
      • From 10th Ave S to Hiawatha Ave plowed, but no bike infrastructure on this road

    2025-12-5

As of 12pm, it snowed 1.1 inches at MSP airport.

    • 28th St E
      • From 1st Ave S to 5th Ave S Bike lane on 28th St is plowed and salted. Clear with little snow.
    • Lake St E Bikeway
      • From Hiawatha Ave S to Snelling Ave Bike path is plowed and salted - Clear with little snow.
    • 21st Ave S
      • From 32nd St to 28th St Thin layer of slush on this road. Feels okay on 38mm/30mm studs, but steer clear of the curb because of deeper slush.
    • 38th St
      • Between West River Pkwy and Hiawatha Ave Bike lane is completely gone and the road has a light layer of slush. Surrounding side streets that aren't main roads like this one are even more slushy and mushy than here. Since there was little slush on 38th St, however, I felt confident riding with 38mm/30mm studded tires.
    • 42nd St
      • Between West River Pkwy and Hiawatha Ave Riding on the road for this segment. Road is not fully plowed, but riding in the tire tracks is adequate. The unplowed snow is mushy.
    • Hiawatha LRT Trail
      • From 38th St to Lake St Snow is starting to build up on this trail, but it is still rideable with 38mm/30mm studded tires. Snow depth at 9am now is about 1 inch.
      • Lake St to Sabo Bridge Plowed, light snow covering it. No slipping on 38mm/30mm tires. Not as wide as normal because of snow blowing from the side, but usable.
    • Lake Nokomis-Minnesota River Regional Trail
      • From Richfield Pkwy to Lake Nokomis Pkwy Well plowed, with a couple of uneven spots where the snow is deep (like under the MN-77 bridge). Parts of it, especially from 66th to Lake Nokomis Pkwy, are salted. So I barely saw any snow there at all. I didn't bike on it for long, but 76th St looked plowed looking the other direction.
    • West Lake Nokomis Pkwy
      • From southern entrance at Cedar Ave to 22nd Ave S The plowing that was done earlier this week has been snowed on, walked on, and it isn't very good. It felt slippery and bumpy the whole time. This would best be conquered on a fat tire bike, which I don't have. My 38mm/30mm studded tires were tough for this.
    • East Minnehaha Pkwy
      • From 22nd Ave S to Lake Hiawatha Packed snow and well plowed. Feels like it was done today, on 38mm/30mm studded tires I felt confident on this portion. A few spots on the minnehaha creek trail intersected with bridges that were unplowed, but for the most part, good.
    • Minnehaha Creek Trail
      • From Lake Hiawatha to Godfrey Pkwy Packed snow and well plowed. Feels like it was done today, on 38mm/30mm studded tires I felt confident on this portion. A few spots on the minnehaha creek trail intersected with bridges that were unplowed, but for the most part, good.
    • Midtown Greenway
      • From Hiawatha Ave to I-35W Plowed today, light layer of snow. Felt safe on 38mm/30mm studded tires, no slipping. A couple of uneven places where the snow is slightly deeper, like around Midtown Exchange, but it never felt sketchy. Well done! Looked plowed further down the greenway as well, but I didn't go there.
      • Sabo Bridge Sabo bridge is not fully plowed. Slippery on 38mm/30mm studded tires. Remnants of an old plowing job.
    • 1st Ave S Bikeway
      • From Lake St to 15th St Plowed today, salted in some places where no snow was present. Didnt see ice and didn't slip on 38mm/30mm tires. However, past 26th St, a couple of residents threw their sidewalk snow into the bikeway. Close to MCAD, a couple of those driveways had a lot of slushy snow that were fine right now (easy ride through), but I worry about that freezing later. Most intersections were good, no big snow drifts I can recall.
        • Intersection with 28th St There is construction equipment obstructing the trail here, so it is UNPLOWED for about 100 ft after 28th St. You gotta ride on the road here or the unplowed sidewalk around the construction equipment. Caution
    • Godfrey Pkwy
      • From Minnehaha Ave to 46th St Packed snow and well plowed. Feels like it was done today, on 38mm/30mm studded tires I felt confident on this portion. A few spots on the minnehaha creek trail intersected with bridges that were unplowed, but for the most part, good.
    • West River Pkwy
      • From 46th St to 38th St Leftover plowing job earlier this week is getting worse, unfortunately. I biked in the tracks of a few fat tire bikers in my 38mm/30mm studded tires. It was better packed than Nokomis, but my rear wheel was slipping a little.
    • Minnehaha Ave
      • From Lake St to 38th St Car tire tracks are clear on this road, but the bike lane is unusable. Full of slush and ice.
    • 29th Ave NE
      • From Stinson Blvd to Central Ave Clear and doable on normal bike tires.
    • 37th Ave NE
      • From Stinson Blvd to Central Ave Clear and doable on normal bike tires.

    2025-12-4

    • Hennepin Ave NE & 1st Ave NE Bikeway
      • 29x2.4" tire (unicycle) plowed, but there are big patches of ice + packed snow basically along the whole route. There aren't any notable patches of pure ice, as all the ice I've noticed has some packed snow on top or mingled in. You will be riding over some bumpy packed snow with the occasional stretches of exposed pavement.
    • West River Pkwy

    • 35E Parkway
      • well plowed, packed snow. crosswalks were mostly plowed. however, the parts where you share the road, the st. paul roads are mushy and i didnt always feel stable on the side streets. i opted to take the sidewalk in some of these parts.
    • Ayd Mill Road Bikeway
      • exited at Ashland Ave well plowed, however some parts were uneven. some snow did not feel well packed, which just resulted in more effort for me, i personally did not feel unstable on my 30mm studded tires.
    • West River Pkwy
      • Lake St to Minnehaha Falls well plowed packed snow. Some patches of ice here and there

    2025-12-1

    • Capitol City Bikeway
      • 7th to Kellogg on Jackson, Sibley to Wabasha on Kellogg well plowed, not much snow on this trail.
    • Wabasha Bridge
      • Clear of snow
    • Plato Blvd
      • Wabasha to Doctor Justus Ohage Blvd well plowed packed snow, little ice
    • Lilydale Regional Park Trail
      • well plowed packed snow, little ice. some uneven plowing spots where the trail becomes uneven, but felt safe and manageable on 30mm studded tires.
    • Big Rivers Regional Trail
      • Lilydale to Mendota Bridge well plowed packed snow, little ice. trail is smooth and didnt notice much uneven plowing.
    • Minnehaha Trail
      • Fort Snelling State Park to 54th St Unplowed, and will remain unplowed for the season.
      • 54th St to Gofrey Pkwy well plowed packed snow, with serviceable crosswalks.
    • Hiawatha MnDOT Trail
      • Fort Snelling to South Minnehaha Park Drive plowed, but somewhat uneven. There is a strip in the middle of the trail from when the plows came through that can be annoying. Didn't notice much ice here, but felt fine on 30mm studded tires.

    2025-11-30

    • Hiawatha LRT Trail
      • 11th Ave S to 46th St Station Plowed, but uneven at some points and has ice patches. South of Lake St, I noticed one side of the trail had slightly deeper snow than the other. It didn't feel unsafe, but it felt like I was putting more effort in than normally packed snow. I thought it was okay on 30mm studded tires. North of Lake St, the snow depth felt more consistent but there were still ice patches throughout the trail.
    • 11th Ave S Bikeway
      • W River Pkwy to Hiawatha LRT Trail plowed and slightly packed, however, some crosswalks were not well plowed and had to get over a snow bank at a couple places.
    • Midtown Greenway
      • Hiawatha to Dean Pkwy A mix of bare pavement, ice, and snow. Stay alert on this trail especially since it gets more traffic than average, I noticed pretty frequent ice patches. Overall good on 30mm studded tires.
    • North Cedar Lake Regional Trail
      • Cedar Lake Pkwy to Virginia Ave Well plowed packed snow, I felt safe on 30mm studded tires and did not notice too much ice.
